Assalamu alaikum wa ragmatullahi wa barakatu

The Husami Educare functions under the auspices of the Cravenby Muslim Educational and Cultural Society, situated on the corner of Husami and York Roads, Cravenby. In 1978 we saw the need for a community based Educare that could cater for learners from 3 to 6 years old. Husami is in its 4th decade serving the spiritual, educational and cultural needs of its community and surroundings with great success. For this we thank the Almighty Allah, and acknowledge, commend and pay tribute to the sterling efforts of the pioneers of our Society. To those pioneers who have passed on, may Allah reward them with Jannah and to those pioneers still in our midst, we make dua that Allah give you all the strength to serve Husami for many years in the future, Insha Allah.

Welcome & Introduction

Dear Parents
We would like to welcome you and your child to our Centre, to participate in our endeavor to initiate the early learning phase of your child and the preparation for school. Our goals are the inculcation of Islamic values and the total development of the children, their spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. In short, we provide a cognitively orientated pre-school programme with an Islamic base. This is merely a guide to our institution, and we welcome any comments, concerns or questions you may have.

A little bit about us...

The Husami Educare first opened its doors in 1978, from the two community halls based at the Husami Masjid premises, providing classes for the pre-primary 5 to 6 year old and 3 to 4 year old groups. The first teachers received their training from the Principal of Habibia pre-primary, Mrs. Sayed. The Educare grew from strength to strength with an enrollment of 160 children. After a few years, the full day programme was introduced. New qualified teachers joined the staff and training was provided to empower the other teachers.

In 2000, the four Grade R classes were accommodated at the Cravenby Secondary School, and we give thanks to them for availing their premises to us. In 2004, the toddlers Educare was moved to the Husami Park, which proved to be a more conducive environment for the children. In addition to the full day class, the Educare currently has three classes, 3 to 4 year olds, and two 4 to 5 year old classes.

Since 2006, the Educare formed a professional link with Metropolis North, and eventually evolved into an independent school. The Educare officially registered as a WCED Independent Preprimary School in 2010, which resulted in many new opportunities for the facility, e.g. grade R CAPS training and governance and management meetings, which has all contributed to the success and excellence of the Educare.

Husami has formed partnerships with FET college North link, by accepting their students at our Educare as volunteer training teachers, which provides opportunities for the students to receive hands on training as well as serving us with supplement teachers.

Academic and extra curricular

Our core learning areas are Numeracy, Literacy and Life Skills, which provides comprehensive curriculum coverage and addresses all content areas. The weighting and pacing of each content area is according to the NCAPS. We have an anti-bias, bilingual approach to our facilitation.

Teaching and learning: Our Ace Grade R Learning Programme integrates the three learning programmes of the foundation phase. The curriculum framework spells out principles, specifies outcomes for learning and teaching, describes areas that are essential for learning and teaching and suggests approaches for evaluating learner progress. Carefully planned work schedules ensure progression and skills development throughout the year. The learning activities for the year are presented as 16 themes that are considered to be relevant to the age and interest of pre-school learners while still making provision for free play inside and outside on a daily basis as this is vital for development of a child’s motor skills.

Grade R Pilot Project: 2011 - The WCED has selected Husami Educare as one of the schools to be part of the Grade R Pilot Project , where research and assessments are done to identify possible the gaps in the basic learning skills of the young Grade R learners.

Extra curricular: Extra activities are offered during the school day and include Seido Karate , Beaux Arts (Kidz Craftz), Playball and Speech and Drama.

Islamic curriculum: A bonus of this Educare, is our Islamic syllabus and the celebrations of our main events in the Islamic calendar e.g. Moulood and Ramadaan. Our programme affirms the Islamic ethos which inculcates the values of self-discipline, integrity , respect and tolerance.

Outreach programmes:
Northlink – We have student placement programme in place, where students studying the ECD level 1,4 and 5 are able to implement the general programmes and procedures at an Educare centre.
